چکیده

A prototype high-frequency ultrasonic nebulizer, coupled with a nebu lization chamber, has been designed specifically to overcome the problem of inefficient and unpredictable radioaerosol delivery. The objective was to reduce mean particle size, increase aerosol concentration, and minimize dead space. Thirty-nine patients were studied, including 15 patients in sig nificant respiratory distress. Delivery of the radioaerosol proved to be rapid, efficient, and reproducible, and excellent alveolar distribution patterns were obtained in all 39 patients. Minimal nonpathologic tracheal deposition occurred in five patients, but this did not interfere with the interpretability or diagnostic validity of the study. All other instances of airway aerosol deposition correlated with documented airway disease. The images ob. tamed with this system are a reliable measure of ventilatory distribution and airway turbulence. J Nuci Med17: 707—710, 1976

Physicochemical aspects and efficiency of albuterol nebulization: comparison of three aerosol types in an in vitro pediatric model.

BACKGROUND Advances in nebulizer design have produced both ultrasonic nebulizers and devices based on a vibrating mesh (vibrating mesh nebulizers), which are expected to enhance the efficiency of aerosol drug therapy. The aim of this study was to compare 4 different nebulizers, of 3 different types, in an in vitro model using albuterol delivery and physical characteristics as benchmarks. METH...

Improved aeroponic culture technique for production of inocula of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi

We compared the conventional atomizing disc aeroponic technology with the latest ultrasonic nebulizer technology for the production of Glomus intraradices inocula. The piezo ceramic element technology used in the ultrasonic nebulizer employed high frequency sound that blasted the nutrient solution and nibulized it into micro-droplets size of 1μm in diameter. Growth of the pre-colonized AMF-root...

Comparison of jet and ultrasonic nebulizer pulmonary aerosol deposition during mechanical ventilation.

Increased delivery of aerosol to a model lung (attached to a mechanical ventilator) has been demonstrated with an ultrasonic nebulizer as compared to a jet nebulizer. This study examined whether the increased aerosol deposition with an ultrasonic nebulizer could also be demonstrated in vivo. Seven patients (6 male and 1 female) were studied during mechanical ventilalion (Siemens Servo 900C, Mid...

Effect of tidal volume on the output and particle size distribution of hypertonic saline from an ultrasonic nebulizer.

The purpose of the present study was to measure the output and particle size distribution of hypertonic saline from an ultrasonic nebulizer over the range of tidal volumes (VT) used in an epidemiological survey of asthma in children. A Starling pump was used to generate different VTs from 250 to 500 ml, at different respiratory rates of 12 and 20 breaths.min-1, to cover the normal range of resp...

Speciation of selenium compounds with ion-pair reversed-phase liquid chromatography using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry as element-specific detection.

For selenium speciation analysis, the hyphenation of chromatographic separation with element-specific detection has proved a useful technique. A powerful separation system, which is capable of resolving several biologically and environmentally important selenium compounds in a single column, is greatly needed. However, that has been difficult to achieve. In this paper eight selenium compounds, ...
